Project Overview: This project involved a complete redesign of the Scottish Parliament website. The goal was to create a user-friendly and accessible website that better serves the needs of its diverse audience, including Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs), civil servants, and the general public.
Process:
- User Research: We conducted extensive user research in Edinburgh, holding weekly sessions with MSPs, civil servants, and members of the public. Workshops, focus groups, and card sorting activities helped us understand user needs, pain points, and preferred information architecture.
- Information Architecture & Content Strategy: Based on user research, we developed a robust information architecture (IA) and content strategy to ensure clear organization and easy access to information.
- Wireframing & Prototyping: We created low-fidelity wireframes to translate the IA into a visual sitemap. Following user testing and feedback, we iterated on the design, developing high-fidelity prototypes that simulated real-world user interactions.
- Visual Design & Development: Collaborating with a visual designer, we established the website’s visual identity, ensuring accessibility and alignment with the Scottish Parliament’s brand. Finally, we worked closely with developers to ensure a smooth transition from prototype to a fully functional website.
